May River Residence

Nestled into a woodsy lot in Palmetto Bluff’s May River Forest, this single-family residence was designed to take advantage of its wide waterfront views and preserve its abundance of mature oak trees. The entry drive screens the residence from the public way as it winds around a majestic live oak, and then reveals the collection of structures centered around another large oak tree. The interior living spaces were designed to maximize the riverfront views in both the main living spaces and the master bedroom wing. The apparent symmetry of the front façade unfolds as you move through the house, with vaulted ceilings in the main living spaces and a cozy second floor tucked in over the bedroom wing. The master bedroom suite rambles off the rear of the residence for complete privacy from the collective living space and views from three sides. A pocketing wall of glass doors to the screened porch and a raised covered walkway to the carriage house enhance the house’s connection to its unique site.
