When the owners purchased this historic residence on Perry Street, the generous proportions of the 1850's structure were compromised by the awkward modernizations dating from the 1980's, including a long, narrow, low-ceilinged kitchen and dated bathrooms. This project retained the original character and proportions of the historic structure but included contemporary renovations to the kitchen and baths to increase the quality and functionality of this beautiful home. The narrow footprint of the kitchen was enhanced by raising the ceiling height by three feet and the replacement of a small traditional bay window with a contemporary glass bay cantilevered into the courtyard to create a gracious, light-filled space. A new master suite occupies the entire second floor and comprises a bedroom, sitting room, office, luxurious master bath, and a new roof terrace over the kitchen to take advantage of the redesigned courtyard. The garden level was converted into an entertainment/media room with kitchen and bath. The house reflects the owner's taste and has a cohesive contemporary feel while maintaining its original historic shell.
