SCAD Ruskin Hall

Completed as the final phase of the Old Candler Hospital restoration project, the east wing building was renovated as a new SCAD academic building when they purchased the property from the Savannah Law School. The original wing housed hospital patient rooms in a double-loaded corridor configuration. The new renovations had to be mindful of the original configuration, as the project was required to meet the guidelines for the Federal Historic Tax Credit program. The corridor and finishes were restored to their original configuration, while allowing for new classroom and office spaces. The ground floor was developed to accommodate a future restaurant space. The exterior was fully restored to match the original finishes. Extensive masonry repointing/repair and a full window replacement has given the building a new, updated image. A new, walled courtyard space was designed along the primary street façade to help the building better engage the sidewalk and improve the pedestrian experience.
